This project is to create a training centre specifically for hospitality and tourism, for planning and teaching formal training, training for the unemployed and ongoing training for those in work, as an essential element to maintain and keep improving the ongoing change in the Balearic Islands’ main economic activity.

The tourism sector accounts for almost 40% of the Balearic Islands’ GDP, and provides almost one in every four jobs in the general Social Security scheme.
Despite the advantageous role of the Balearic Islands and Mallorca in the hotel and tourism sector, one clear piece of evidence that hinders development in the sector is the lack of training infrastructures to meet the demand for a more qualified workforce. This leads to a loss of opportunities in terms of well-paid positions for workers from the islands.
In the case of the hotel sector, catering and cookery training facilities and equipment are particularly expensive, which makes them hard for the private sector to provide. Accordingly, the map of hospitality vocational training centres is clearly insufficient.
This fact is particularly serious in the case of the northern area of Mallorca, which despite being an area where tourism is so important there are no training facilities to meet the demands from the sector for cookery and catering training facilities.
This first stage will provide the basic design and execution plans for the works, but does not include either the cost of the works execution or the purchase of the equipment or furniture, the funding and execution of which is planned for a later stage.
