The project

Es Trenc - Salobrar de Campos is one of the most emblematic natural areas in the Balearic Islands and one of the coastal systems with the greatest ecological value on the island of Mallorca and the entire Mediterranean coast. Its bio-geographical features make it an exceptional natural space in terms of ecological, natural and landscape richness.

On the beach and dunes of Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos, there are a significant number of coexisting habitats which include important meadows of marine phanerogams, broad beaches of fine bioclastic sand, rows of primary front dunes, solid rear dunes, huge wetlands (Salobral de Campos), and coastal lagoons, as well as pine and juniper forests that solidify the more consolidated dune system and, especially in the north and central sections, crop fields and livestock farming.

This is the right moment to implement this recovery project given the threats to the conservation of the area caused by the increased and diversified activities in recent years, the pressure exerted on the differing habitats, the special fragility of the dunes and wetlands, and the disturbance and deterioration of environmental parameters.

Therefore, a series of actions has been proposed to achieve the following project objectives: the recovery of the beach-dune system, the recovery of the bee-eater habitat in the Ses Arenas quarry, improved management of Posidonia leaf remains that are blown onto the beach, the monitoring of the Salobral and coastal bird fauna, the creation of itineraries to facilitate user visits to the natural space and an educational and environmental interpretation campaign for all the public, among other goals.
