Promoting the social and circular economy

The project

The Balearic Islands government has previously financed two calls for applications for subsidies to promote the social and circular economy. These calls resulted in a high demand for projects, highlighting the need for a third call with a higher financial envelope.

The aim of these calls for proposals is to promote models that seek to reduce the consumption of unsustainable materials, reduce the production of waste and incorporate actions to reuse products and create a closed-loop system. The public subsidies to be distributed via this project are aimed at initiatives that focused on the efficient use of resources, and whose mission is to move towards a circular economy model.

Special attention will be given to proposals that address the issue of tourist waste, promoting prevention and reuse, as well as composting and other biological transformation processes.

With this project the aim is to move towards reducing the use of non-renewable natural resources and reusing waste to give it a second life as a raw material, and also to promote the analysis of product life cycles and the incorporation of eco-design criteria.

In addition to the environmental objectives, this project also aims to promote the creation of workplaces for people at risk of social exclusion and to carry out actions to raise awareness of the importance of moving towards a circular and more sustainable economy.
