Project for the promotion of electric micro-mobility in the Balearic Islands

The project

The use of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs) and electric bicycles instead of passenger cars, especially in urban environments, can make an important contribution to promoting more efficient and sustainable transport.

Law 10/2019 on climate change and energy transition in the Balearic Islands establishes a series of measures aimed at promoting sustainable mobility, and in particular encouraging electric mobility.

This project aims to promote micro-mobility with the acquisition of bicycles and electric scooters for individuals and companies that will hire out these vehicles, to both residents and visitors to the Balearic Islands.

To this end, there will be public call for applications for subsidies for the purchase of bicycles and electric scooters to be hired out as personal mobility vehicles. A subsidy of 50% of average vehicle cost will be granted, and special consideration will be given to those adapted for people with reduced mobility, through additional subsidies.

The implementation of this project will contribute to making tourism more sustainable, create local jobs related to the sale, hire and maintenance of sustainable micro-mobility vehicles, and favour new emerging business models that are not linked to the tourism sector.

This project will also contribute to making the Balearic Islands a smart, sustainable tourist destination, as well as developing the more efficient energy management systems that will be necessary to respond to an energy model that is increasingly dependent on renewable energies.
