The project

The Torres del Temple are a truly unique feat of architecture, designated a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC), as they contain rare remains from the Islamic and medieval Christian periods. Over the centuries, they have undergone several alterations and suffered significant structural damage, making comprehensive action urgent to ensure their preservation and to showcase them to residents and visitors.

The project aims to restore the historic building and provide Palma with a tourist information, guidance and welcome centre to serve as a gateway to discovering its heritage. The goal here is not just to improve the visitor experience, but also to raise awareness among local residents of the importance of heritage as a marker of cultural identity and a driving force behind sustainable tourism.

The Torres del Temple will house Palma’s Heritage Interpretation Centre, which will form part of the future City History Museum. As well as architectural restoration, the project seeks to convert the space into museum galleries and to design educational and informative content. The project, which began in 2017 and is scheduled to run until 2026, involves an investment of over €2.1 million.

Its main objectives are to strengthen Palma’s image as a cultural tourism destination, offer a base for booking heritage-related tourism services, and boost visitor satisfaction through better guidance and a clearer understanding of what’s on offer. The centre will also play an important educational role, bringing history and heritage to the local community.
