The rustic land of sa Marina de s’Ermita is located very near to Ferreries, and is a historic reminder of the town as it used to be. This is an emblematic space of major landscape and environmental worth, with a rich biodiversity that brings added value and which, using teaching aids, has been studied in various stages in our schools along with many of the island’s other towns.
The holm oak on the land is listed with a high level of protection and is well conserved. Furthermore, the fact that the same plot of land also contains certain old buildings that have long been used by the parish of Ferreries and by the Diocese of Menorca is another reason why the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands Government is interested in purchasing the land, in order to increase the number of public areas of greenery.
In this context, the main course of action involves purchasing this element of environmentally valuable public heritage and carrying out a thorough reappraisal. This will lead to improvements in its protection and recovery as a natural space, and will help to preserve it into the future, which will not only bolster its considerable environmental, heritage and cultural value; it will also boost the historical and cultural heritage of Ferreries itself.
