The council's initiative responds to a twofold need: to strengthen visitor services in high traffic areas and to support the transition to electric mobility. The new building will be located next to the seafront promenade, in an area affected by a governmental order on excessive tourism, with the aim of bringing the police service closer to tourists and locals, in an accessible, efficient and energy-responsible space.
The project also includes the installation of eleven double charging points for electric vehicles at key locations in the municipality, such as schools, the Can Bonet social centre and the bus station. The project will double the current recharging capacity, with new semi-fast points and a fast point at the bus station.
The building, designed as a modular, detachable structure, will be constructed with recyclable materials and wood treated for marine environments, ensuring low environmental impact. Priority is given to energy efficiency, sunlight-trapping systems and integration with the landscape. It will also include its own recharging point.
The action was requested by local groups, hotel owners and the British Consulate itself, given the need to reinforce safety in the area. The total budget is over €1 million and the execution period is 22 months. Through this work, the municipality is taking a firm step towards a more sustainable and orderly model of tourism.
