Every summer, thousands of people flock to Platja de Palma, including locals, tourists and workers. This high influx puts a strain on public safety resources. To respond to this challenge, the council has reinforced the SETUR safety system with new patrols, video surveillance cameras and aerial surveillance using drones.
Beyond more human resources, the plan foresees the acquisition of seven 100% electric police vehicles and a support van, representing a step towards the decarbonisation of the municipal fleet. The Mounted Police training arena will also be fitted with roofing to improve animal welfare conditions during the warmer months.
A significant part of this system is focused on Platja de Palma, especially on the road of Carrer de Bartomeu Salvà, where cameras will be installed to prevent anti-social behaviour such as street drinking. The project also foresees the use of drones to control large crowds and assist in emergency situations.
The total investment for this system amounts to €5.8 million over two years. The new trainee officers are expected to be in place by summer 2025, which will allow for greater police presence without affecting other neighbourhoods. The aim is to make safety, local life and sustainability compatible in one of Mallorca's main tourist hotspots.
