The project

Built in the 1980s, the promenade had fallen into disrepair after decades without any comprehensive redevelopment. Partial maintenance actions had not solved the backlog of problems, such as clutter on the terraces and street furniture, which narrowed the pedestrian walkway and hindered mobility. This deterioration impacted the appearance of the promenade, in the middle of the waterfront with a large influx of tourists and residents.

The project has rearranged the public space to prioritise the flow of pedestrians and improve direct access to the beach. To this end, a modular, prefabricated system has been put in place to structure pathways and shopping areas, thereby eliminating obstacles in the most difficult sections and improving universal accessibility throughout the area.

Moreover, the works have sought to improve road traffic management, especially to ensure controlled access for emergency, maintenance and delivery vehicles without affecting people’s enjoyment of the promenade. These measures allow for greater harmony between the different purposes of the promenade, thereby improving the experience for residents and tourists alike.

Finally, water and electricity facilities have been renovated to adapt them to current demand in the area, which includes both residential and intensive tourism use. This first phase has focused on the section between milestones 57 and 96 on the south coast, as part of a wider local plan to gradually renovate the entire promenade. The total investment executed is over €2 million.
