Es Gorg park-and-ride car park, near the centre of Ibiza Town, is set to undergo an energy transformation. The project foresees the installation of canopies with 1,190 solar panels and electric charging points, with the aim of promoting the use of renewable energy in the city and facilitating sustainable mobility.
This work, promoted by Ibiza Town Council, also includes improvements to pavements, signage and cabling. The energy captured by the photovoltaic panels will supply the electric charging points. If this goes over the expected demand, the surplus will be fed into the grid. The infrastructure is designed to produce long-term environmental, social and economic benefits.
One focus of the project is to promote the use of electric vehicles by both locals and rental companies. It also complements other mobility systems in the area, such as the current pilot test of scooters and electric bicycles. The covered car park will also make the asphalt cooler, thus improving thermal comfort in the area.
The work, valued at more than €1.6 million, is planned across two phases and is expected to take around eight months to complete. This strategic investment will boost the municipality's energy transition and its commitment to cleaner, more efficient infrastructure.
