The project

The main street in the old town, Carrer Major, ran through the municipality from north to south and had many defects. The water facilities were constantly leaking, the sewage system was often clogged, and neither the electricity nor the telephone networks were underground. It also lacked rainwater collection, creating functional problems in the heart of the city, as well as making the street look less attractive.

The project has resolved these shortcomings by renovating the water and sewage networks, burying electrical and telecommunications services, and installing a better drainage system. Also, the area between Sa Plaça and Cap de la Vila has been pedestrianised, correcting slopes on the road to ensure universal accessibility and improve water drainage.

Beyond technical improvements, the work expands the network of pedestrian streets in the municipality, creating a safer, more comfortable public space for residents and tourists. This new environment is great for business and social activities, including walking, markets and outdoor exhibitions, and has become a tourist attraction that helps boost the town all year round.
