A project involving the replacement and installation of valves in the pipeline connecting Son Sitges, Maria de la Salut and Santa Maria del Camí

What does it consist of?

The intention of this project is to carry out work to create a 15,000 m3 reservoir at the Son Sitges (Sa Marineta) facilities to enable better control of water extracted from the wells in the Sa Marineta aquifer, from the S’Estremera aquifer and from the Sa Costera spring and water from the Alcúdia desalination plant.

The project

The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) provides the above-ground public supply service to the neediest towns through the management of its water supply sources through its distribution network. This enables the water piping connecting Son Sitges, Maria de la Salut and Santa Maria to provide water to different towns, with the integration of the above-ground supply system managed by ABAQUA.

This project therefore includes the necessary work to carry out the replacement and installation of the "T" valves connecting the pipelines from the Son Sitges, Maria de la Salut and Santa Maria facilities. This is considered necessary in order to be able to improve the supply of the eastern area of Mallorca as well as to supply the towns with water from the s'Estremera aquifer or from the Sa Costera source if necessary and thus allow the recovery of the Sa Marineta aquifer.

The planned action consists of the replacement and installation of three monitored valves of the control, operation and regulation elements necessary to allow the valves to operate remotely from the Son Pacs control site in Palma. These valves are located in the Camí Vell de Muro catch pit within the municipality of Llubí

It will also be necessary to construct a 170 m trench up to the transformation site, owned by the Balearic Water Agency, in order to provide electricity to the valve actuators and the control and automation connections required for their remote operation.
