Under this project, a 15,000 m3 reservoir will be built in the Son Sitges facilities (Sa Marineta). This is intended to achieve an improvement in the control of the water that comes from the water extraction wells.

The current reservoir at the Son Sitges (Sa Marineta) facilities is only about 1,000 m3, which does not allow a margin of regulation or disinfection of water from the Sa Marineta aquifer extraction wells for its subsequent transfer from its capture point to the towns. This also means that it is impossible to suspend the supply to be able to perform its repair and cleaning, due to having only one basin.
It has been therefore deemed necessary to improve the regulation of the water coming from the Sa Marineta aquifer water extraction wells, the s'Estremera aquifer or the Sa Costera source, as well as the water coming from the Alcúdia desalination plant. This was the reason why the works included in this project consist of the construction of a 15,000 m3 reservoir at the Son Sitges (Sa Marineta) facilities to ensure better water regulation.
The key purpose of the construction of this reservoir is as follows:
- Collaboration in the regulation of the flow of supply to the towns of Pla and Raiguer, as well as to the Llevant area in Mallorca at a later date.
- To be able to temporarily take the current reservoir out of service for its cleaning and repair.
- To comply with sanitary requirements in the facilities with the construction of a reservoir with two basins.
- To enable it to be a reservoir for regulating the water coming from the Sa Marineta aquifer water extraction wells, the s'Estremera aquifer or the Sa Costera source, as well as the water coming from the Alcúdia desalination plant.
