Felanitx faces a critical situation with its water infrastructure, marked by a high percentage of water losses that compromises the quality of the service. This project aims to repair the two main water tanks in the town centre to improve their watertightness and solve structural problems. This intervention will ensure a more efficient and sustainable supply and reduce waste of this key resource.

The data for 2021 reflect a severe water management problem the municipality of Felanitx faces. Actual losses are estimated at over 40%, which makes it necessary to take immediate action on the municipal infrastructure, especially in the two urban reservoirs that are seriously deficient.
One of the tanks suffers from major structural problems, with a risk of collapse if intervention is not undertaken soon. Both reservoirs also have leakage problems, causing water losses and contributing to the waste of the municipality's water resources. This situation is even more critical given the overexploitation of aquifers, aggravated by drought and increased demand during the tourist season.
The actions proposed in this project include the repair of the circular tank structure and the improvement of the watertightness of both structures. These improvements are expected to reduce water losses to 17% as well as energy costs associated with pumping and chlorination. These measures will help to optimise water management and make water use more efficient, contributing to more sustainable water management.
The modernisation of the facilities is also envisaged in order to guarantee compliance with health regulations and the quality of the water supplied to the population. The improvement of the water infrastructure is key to avoid possible supply cuts and service continuity in all areas of the town, especially in the highlands, which depend directly on these reservoirs.
The project will have a positive impact on the environmental and economic sustainability of Felanitx. Reducing water losses will reduce the costs associated with the supply and use of chlorination chemicals and energy. These improvements will enable better management of water resources and help to preserve local aquifers, prevent overexploitation and promote their regeneration.
