The project

Manacor’s water service is moving towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly model of mobility. Through this project, the City Council has added nine electric vehicles to its service fleet, replacing older models that ran on fossil fuels. The measure seeks to reduce pollutant emissions and noise pollution in urban areas.

The action is part of a joint strategy between municipalities within Mallorca’s public water network (Aguas Públicas de Mallorca). These municipalities, responsible for water management, play an active role in the fight against climate change. Manacor also has environmental improvement plans that prioritise the electrification of service vehicles as key to achieving climate targets.

Specifically, they have invested in seven vans, one truck and one car, together with their respective charging points to ensure they are ready for operation. This upgrade allows for the use of more modern vehicles with fewer operating costs, especially as they can be charged using renewable energy.

The plan was executed between 2018 and 2019, with an investment of €310,970 funded by sustainable tourism tax. Manacor therefore joins other towns using new technology in public services with a view to environmental protection.
