Playa d'en Bossa, one of Ibiza's main tourist resorts, suffers from recurrent flooding and water discharged into the sea during heavy rain. In order to solve this problem, the construction of a new stormwater network and a new stormwater tank is planned to prevent these discharges, protect the marine environment and improve urban drainage. This will ensure more efficient water management and a better experience for residents and visitors.

Platja d'en Bossa is a beach located in a very busy tourist area, especially during the summer months. During heavy rainfall, the existing stormwater drainage network is overwhelmed, causing streets, businesses, homes and other public spaces to flood. Moreover, the existing sewer system is insufficient to handle the large flow of rainwater, saturating the pumping and treatment network.
This results in untreated water being discharged into the sea. These waters bring waste and polluting particles that alter the environmental balance and entail a huge cost for the repair of urban infrastructures.
This project involves the construction of an 861 m³ tank that will collect and store rainwater for proper management. A sand and grease removal system, a new filter pit and a pumping structure to connect the tank to the sewage network will also be installed.
Furthermore, urban drainage will be optimised to minimise the costs of repairing street furniture damaged during rainfall. The project also contemplates the tank for uses that contribute to sustainability, such as watering green spaces, as water is a scarce commodity in the Balearic Islands.
The planned action will not only reduce environmental problems but will also provide a lasting solution to prevent flooding in streets and public spaces.
The plan will double the area of cultivated land and reinforce fire prevention in Ibiza
