The project

Valldemossa has joined forces with six other municipalities to improve Mallorca’s public water network (Aguas Pública de Mallorca). To this end, it has added a new electric vehicle to replace a previous diesel-powered model. This one-off yet significant action is part a broader plan to upgrade local council vehicles in line with sustainability standards.

The action also included the installation of an electric charging point, ensuring the operability of the vehicle in real service conditions. Although just a single vehicle, the action is part of a long-term strategy to reduce the environmental footprint of local public services and move towards a more efficient energy model that is less dependent on fossil fuels.

This type of action is in line with the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (PAES) and other local schemes that aim to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution in urban environments. The progressive electrification of local council vehicles is a key tool to achieve these objectives.

The plan was carried out in Valldemossa between 2018 and 2019, funded by sustainable tourism tax. The investment amounted to €27,769.
