The promotion of sustainable mobility and the creation of pedestrian-friendly spaces that encourage outdoor leisure and sports activities is one of the priorities of the Balearic Islands government. For this reason, it will be financing the project proposed by the Consell de Mallorca to improve this section of the MA-13A road and the creation of a promenade for pedestrians and sustainable vehicles.
On the one hand, the project will improve the cross-sectional area of the road. This will mean having one lane for traffic in each direction, and widening the verges and berms by 1.50 m on both sides of the road. This change is necessary as currently the verges become narrower on this stretch. The aim is to increase traffic safety, especially for road cyclists, so that they can continue to cycle from Santa Maria to Inca, passing through Consell and Binissalem.
On the other hand, it will create a pedestrianised stretch of road 2.7 km long and 2.5 m wide, which will have a 70 cm strip where urban furniture will be placed, shaded areas will be created by planting native plant species, and ornamental lighting will be installed. This strip will be provided with an anti-grass mesh and marine gravel or similar for an aesthetically pleasing finish.
The municipalities to benefit most will be Lloseta and Inca, which will gain equal benefit, as this promenade will promote sustainable mobility, health, sport and leisure activities between these two municipalities. It will also be a continuation of the ‘vial cívico’ that already connects Binissalem with Lloseta.
