The project

Located between Betlem and Colònia de Sant Pere, Es Canons Estate is one of the most important spots in Llevant’s countryside. In private hands until recently, this ecologically important property has been acquired by the Balearic Government through a transaction aimed at conservation, public access and improving the network of protected natural spaces.

The purchase, carried out by the Regional Ministry for Finance and External Relations with funding from sustainable tourism tax, responds to the goal of expanding Llevant Natural Park. This extension will not only reinforce environmental protection, but also reopen a key section of the GR-222 hiking trail, currently cut off at this point by private property.

A strategically important part of the estate is the Ses Cases Velles building, which could be renovated and opened to the public as a lodge or guest house. Also, the fact there’s a heliport on the property is another advantage: this allows for rapid action in the event of forest fires in the area, reducing response times to environmental emergencies.

The landscape and environmental significance of Es Canons, together with its potential as a public service infrastructure and its future integration into the park, make this acquisition a strategic transaction for the region and for Mallorca's natural heritage as a whole. With an investment of around €7 million, the Balearic Government is ensuring the conservation of a key space for sustainability and collective use.
