The construction of a new 15,000 m³ tank at the Son Sitges facilities, in the area of Sa Marineta (Mallorca), aims to increase the capacity to regulate water extracted from several different groundwater reservoirs and springs, and to allow maintenance work without service disruption.

Until now, the water infrastructure in Son Sitges had a tank with a limited capacity of just 1,000 m³, which made it difficult both to regulate the flow and to carry out basic cleaning and repair work. This situation led to a weak point in the supply system to municipalities in inland Mallorca, especially in Pla and Raiguer.
The planned new tank, with a capacity fifteen times greater, will ensure better management of water extracted from groundwater reservoirs in Sa Marineta and s'Estremera, as well as water sourced from Sa Costera and the Alcudia desalination plant. This improvement is crucial in a context of increasing pressure on water resources and the need to ensure the quality of the water supplied.
A major development is the construction of a double tank, a technical solution to allow the service to remain in working order during maintenance, cleaning or repair. This setup also ensures disinfection and treatment protocols in line with current health regulations.
The plan reinforces the supply infrastructure for the mains water network in Mallorca, laying the foundations for more efficient and safer management of the water cycle on an island that is particularly vulnerable to water stress.
