The project

This project has provided the area with a sewage collection network, a basic infrastructure that was previously lacking and caused major inconvenience to residents. The drinking water supply network has also been improved by replacing outdated pipes and connecting the town directly to Es Castell’s general municipal network.

The works have been carried out mainly on the road to Sant Lluís, where, as well as the water and sewage networks, infrastructure has been prepared for future improvements such as street lighting, pavements and telecommunications networks. This project represents a step forward in the modernisation of the town centre, as it better integrates it into the municipality and resolves persistent shortcomings.

The works respond to long-standing local demands and provide the centre with basic services on par with other town areas in the municipality. The improved infrastructure will make residents’ day-to-day life easier and enhance the quality of life by eliminating sewage and environmental problems due to the lack of a sewage network.

Moreover, the project includes water sustainability standards in line with the island context of Menorca. In particular, a closed water cycle is proposed to reuse treated water instead of discharging it to the sea, thereby increasing the availability of resources in a place with water restrictions. This philosophy reinforces the environmental commitment of the works.
