The project

Sa Senieta is the only property in Formentera declared as a catalogued asset under the provisions of the Balearic Islands historical heritage Law 12/1998, of December 21st, which highlights its value from the point of view of the island's cultural heritage.

The significant historical value of the estate, its uniqueness and the strategic location within the historical centre of Sant Francesc Xavier (Formentera), mean that it would be highly advisable for the Local Council of Formentera to acquire and subsequently restore this property to be used as a public space in line with its degree of protection.

The estate is a unique example of the traditional architecture of Formentera for several reasons: firstly, because it is made up of two large houses with a more complex distribution than usual for Formentera; secondly, because it has been relatively well-preserved without distorting modifications so it has retained its characteristics, materials and original finishes.

Finally, because in the absence of a more detailed study, current historical references place this house and the farm to which it was linked, in the eighteenth century. All this means that the acquisition of the rural property and house of Sa Senieta, is a project that will play a part in the recovery and renovation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Balearic Islands and, more specifically, Formentera.
