The Temple Towers building is an architectural element with a unique heritage value for the city of Palma, which has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC - Bien de Interés Cultural), given that its two towers preserve the few known remains of the Islamic era and the medieval Christian era.
Throughout its history it has been subjected to several interventions which have led to a high risk of degradation to its structure and type of construction, so action is urgently required for its preservation.
The aim of this project is to renovate the heritage and provide Palma with a reception centre to guide visitors. This place should play a fundamental role in the promotion of Palma's heritage and by adding value to the building it will also develop tourism, something which is vital for the city.
Therefore, the main objective is to renovate a historic building in poor condition that is an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and convert it into the Presentation Centre of Palma's Heritage, within the framework of the History Museum of the City project. The following general objectives have been identified:
- Developing the Strategic Plan for the Cultural, Archaeological and Architectural Heritage of Palma.
- Raising the population's awareness of the concept of heritage as an element of cultural identity.
- Consolidating the image of Palma as a destination for cultural tourism and creating a tourism product based on exceptional heritage.
- Providing the city with an instrument for the promotion and interpretation of heritage.
- Creating a centre for tourist visits that will guide them, avoid dispersions and stimulate interest.
- Facilitating the information and contracting of tourism and cultural services related to heritage.
- Increasing the level of tourist satisfaction through a better understanding and knowledge of the offer.
- Making residents aware of the heritage paying special attention to its educational role.
