Reform of the stands at the Formentera municipal football ground

Expansion and improvement of the stands to host cultural and sporting events and promote tourism out of season.

What does it consist of?

Formentera is committed to the deseasonalisation of tourism in order to distribute the influx of visitors throughout the year and promote cultural and sports tourism. One of the projects that will contribute to achieving this objective is the remodelling of the stands at the municipal football ground, located in the municipality of Sant Francesc Xavier. This intervention will make it possible to hold major cultural and sporting events and will boost the range of activities on offer during off-peak tourist months.

The project

With a capacity for 918 people, the new grandstand will open the door to large-scale cultural events, such as the Formentera Jazz Festival, which has reached its 20th edition and will now be able to bring internationally renowned artists thanks to the enlarged space. In fact, this festival will be one of the first major events to benefit from the new grandstand.

The improved space will also allow the organisation of new cultural events such as spring or autumn festivals, concerts by established artists or large theatre and circus companies that were previously unable to perform due to a lack of adequate infrastructure.

In addition to cultural events, the new stands will promote local sport and sports tourism, which will contribute to the deseasonalisation of the tourist season by holding competitions outside the months with the greatest influx of visitors. Formentera already has consolidated sporting events, such as the Formentera All Round Trail, the Half Marathon and the Triathlon, which attract international participants. With the new infrastructure, it will also be possible to hold other inter-island events such as rugby, archery, field hockey or 7-a-side football competitions.

In addition to improving the experience for local spectators and tourists, remodelling the stands of the municipal football ground will generate new economic opportunities for Formentera's businesses in winter. With this action, the island will be able to expand its tourism and sports offer and promote a more sustainable, diversified and environmentally friendly tourism model.
