Carrer de Punta Prima to be Revamped to Improve Pedestrian Mobility

Refurbished pavements and a wider road to improve pedestrian safety

What does it consist of?

Carrer de Punta Prima, a street in Es Pujols (Formentera), will undergo full remodelling to improve accessibility, revamp the pavements and reorganise traffic. This project is the final step in reforms to the ring road that were started in previous phases, and responds to a need identified due to damage and a lack of continuity.

The project

The project involves the complete transformation of the stretch between Avenida Miramar and Calle Xaloc. Currently, this road has damaged pavements, broken tiles and visible overhead wiring that affects the urban look of the surroundings. The main goal is to create safe, accessible pedestrian routes, remove physical barriers and brighten up the city environment.

Work is divided between two different stretches of the road: the eastern stretch, with a single lane in the southbound direction, and the southern stretch, which will have two-way traffic and a wider road. As well as revamped pavements, the space will be reorganised to improve mobility, including the removal of structures that hinder people with reduced mobility from being able to get by easily.

This work is part of a wider strategy to modernise the city network of Es Pujols, which is always busy with both locals and tourists. These upgrades to Punta Prima thus expand on improvements already made to nearby streets such as Miramar, creating a more functional, safer and more connected circuit.

The total budget amounts to €1.4 million, handed out between 2025 and 2026. It is hoped that the work will serve to improve the quality of the public space in a centre with strong pressure from seasonal tourism and the need to adapt to universal accessibility standards.
