The project

The Directorate-General for University Policy and Research is leading this plan, looking to strengthen the connection between science and citizens. The creation of a Scientific Culture Unit will facilitate outreach efforts on the islands, in a context where transparency and access to knowledge are key to sustainable development.

The plan has a participatory approach and foresees collaboration between researchers, the media, government entities and educational bodies. The aim is to use both traditional channels and social media to promote more visible, more accessible science culture. The unit will also serve as a space for strategic planning and coordination.

One of the pillars of the plan is to raise society's awareness of the importance of R&D&I as a driver of progress. To this end, efforts will be made to boost interest in science in everyday life and to make the impact of public investment in this field more visible. The strategy also aims to foster dialogue between the scientific community and the public.

The plan, which is still under development, is funded by sustainable tourism tax. The first steps have focused on the planning and implementation of the unit. It is hoped that its results will gradually be felt in the Balearic Islands’ science outreach ecosystem.
