The project

Research clusters bring together companies, research centres and public bodies to create synergies around innovation and technological development. In fragmented regions such as the Balearic Islands, where the economy depends largely on the service sector, these collaborative ecosystems are considered strategic tools for diversifying the production model.

The initiative, led by the Council of Energy Transition and Productive Sectors, is carrying on a previous scheme from 2018 to grant subsidies to innovative business clusters. These grants are designed to facilitate their participation in national and international R&D&I projects, as well as to foster the creation of new clusters that are yet to be structured.

The project selection process includes double evaluation: an external evaluation, based on scientific and technical criteria, and an internal evaluation, focused on the potential impact on economic development in the Balearic Islands. This methodology makes it possible to assess both the quality of the proposals and their suitability for production on the island.

The implementation of these projects can take up to three years. The defence phase is subject to regular controls to ensure the correct use of the funds and that the results align with the objectives set.
