The project

The generation of waste is one of the main environmental impacts that comes from the tourism industry, an industry which, in addition to economic benefits, also causes social inequality. The objective of this project is to promote initiatives by private entities with a clear social and environmental objective aimed at changing this situation and applying the principles of the circular economy, which is strongly encouraged by the European Union.

Rather than being a problem, the aim is for waste to become a resource and an opportunity, not only at an environmental level but also through the creation of jobs for people at risk of social exclusion, a situation created mainly because of an economic model based on tourism.

In addition to the potential generation of supervised employment, specific waste prevention activities such as remanufacturing and the customisation of reused products can generate more than 100 care positions for people with mental health problems and/or serious exclusion.

Therefore, the objective of this project is to obtain resources to finance initiatives driven by clearly solvent entities that act with an undoubted social and environmental purpose, which will be self-managed and will be viable and continuous over time, generate jobs for vulnerable people and help the autonomous community achieve the objectives set out by Europe in terms of waste management.
