Doctors Recruited into the R&D System in the Balearic Islands

The ‘ForInDoc’ scheme boosts research with home-grown talent on the islands

What does it consist of?

Attracting talent, retaining researchers and strengthening the scientific capacity of the archipelago. This is the roadmap for ‘ForInDoc’, an ongoing scheme that promotes the training and recruitment of doctors in public and private institutions in the Balearic Islands, in order to establish a more competitive, more internationally connected R&D system.

The project

Scientific development cannot survive without skilled people. This is the premise behind the ‘ForInDoc’ scheme, an ongoing initiative that seeks to recruit qualified researchers into the Balearic Islands’ science and technology system. The strategy includes both the training of young doctors and their subsequent employment in public and private institutions across the archipelago.

The scheme expects competitive applications to cover all stages of research careers, from PhD to project leadership. As well as expanding the base of qualified staff in R&D, there is a commitment to promote mobility, internationalisation and emerging careers, especially among young women in research. External scientific evaluation ensures the quality and coherence of every post filled.

The selected research staff will work in areas defined by the Balearic Science and Technology Plan, such as energy transition, climate change, water cycle, cultural heritage, and technology in tourism. Training and recruitment aim to strengthen the connection between knowledge, the region and strategic sectors.

With a planned investment of €850,000, the scheme is being rolled out progressively. This boost to careers in science on the islands is a firm step towards reducing brain drain, strengthening local research and connecting innovation with the archipelago’s social and environmental priorities.
