The project

Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, considered one of the most important natural areas in the Mediterranean, has implemented a series of actions to reinforce its environmental sustainability. The aim is to turn this space into a hub for good practices in resource management and adaptation to climate change, with an approach that can be applied in other areas of the Balearic archipelago.

The plan has included the installation of a water treatment plant at the port to ensure all discharges to the sea meet strict quality standards. New buried pipes for drinking water will also be installed to reduce losses and ensure the supply meets adequate sanitary conditions.

With regard to energy, the plan has sought to increase solar energy storage capacity through a new battery bank and upgraded solar panels, in order to boost production and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Mobility in the park will see transformation with a fleet of electric vehicles, along with the infrastructure required to charge them.

A specialised technical team has been set up to coordinate these measures, oversee their implementation and ensure the results effectively help to protect Cabrera's unique ecosystem. With an investment of €953,998, the plan has made progress towards a management model based on efficient conservation.
