Campanet Electrifies Its Local Council Vehicle Fleet With a Zero-Emission Excavator

The municipality has upgraded water service machinery with cleaner, quieter technology

What does it consist of?

Campanet has obtained an electric excavator along with a special charging point as part of a joint action between municipalities in Mallorca. This initiative, funded through sustainable tourism tax, aims to reduce polluting emissions and improve energy efficiency in local public services.

The project

Local council vehicles and machinery contribute significantly to urban emissions. In Campanet, the town council has replaced one of its oldest pieces of construction equipment with an electric excavator, with no direct emissions or engine noise. The action is part of a plan led by Mallorca’s public water network (Aguas Públicas de Mallorca) to upgrade part of the vehicle fleet in seven municipalities.

As well as acquiring new equipment, a special charging point has been installed to ensure its operability. The action was carried out between 2018 and 2019. The total cost of the plan in Campanet was €63,646, funded entirely through sustainable tourism tax.

This machinery upgrade not only implies an improvement for the environment, but also responds to operational efficiency. It eliminates fossil fuel costs and supports the gradual reduction of dependence on oil, especially where renewable sources are used for charging, such as municipally owned solar panels.

This type of initiative aligns with the climate and air quality action plans that many local councils in Mallorca have begun to adopt. In the case of Campanet, the move to electric machinery is a step further in adapting public services to models of lower environmental impact and greater sustainability in the medium term.
