The Town Council of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar has promoted a project to renovate and extend the recycled water system along the municipality's coastline. The action will optimise the use of this resource in green spaces and street cleaning, thereby reducing pressure on aquifers and improving the efficiency of the existing system.

The coastal town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar has had a distribution system of recycled water from the Sa Coma treatment plant for many years. However, technical problems with the infrastructure— leaks, lack of pressure, poor sectorisation and obsolescence of materials—have resulted in difficulties to make full use of it. This project addresses this very situation, renovating over 1,800 metres of pipes and adding digital management systems.
The intervention will be carried out in streets such as Mare Selva, Garrover, Tamarell, Mimoses and Eucaliptus, in the urban area of Sa Coma. The new system will be sectorised, meshed and equipped with pressure sensors and flow meters connected to the WWTP's SCADA system. Solar-powered base stations will also be installed to collect and transmit real-time use and system status data.
One of the main objectives is to ensure sufficient flow rates and pressure throughout all areas, especially at the points furthest from the pump discharge point. Automation and instrumentation will enable faster detection of incidents, reduce leakage and improve overall system efficiency.
This project aims to promote the use of recycled water as an alternative to drinking water for non-domestic uses, such as garden irrigation or street cleaning. This measure will help reduce groundwater extraction from aquifers in the months of greatest water pressure and reduce the discharge of treated water into the sea, with the consequent environmental benefit for the coastline. The works will last approximately four months and have a total budget of 432,244 euros.
Project to promote sustainable mobility and its connection with public transport.
