The project

The Balearic Islands, in general, and Mallorca in particular, have outstanding competitive advantages in terms of nautical activity and, especially, in all of the tasks related to the maintenance and repair of nautical vessels.

Any economic development strategy requires having human resources which ensure that this type of activity is performed. Despite the advantages of the Balearic Islands and Mallorca in this area, the lack of training is an obstacle to the development of the sector. In fact, a large part of the personnel in this sector is made up of people from elsewhere, which means lost opportunities for well-paid jobs for Balearic workers.

The project consists of the creation of an Integrated Vocational Training Centre (FP) focusing on the repair and maintenance of nautical vessels in the Port of Alcúdia, which is part of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance area. The aim is to cover all of the training offered in the north of Mallorca, as well as other related training areas.

The construction of this centre in the north of the island will enable a structured response to the training needs of the sector and it will act as a strong boost to the activity. For this reason, the proposal of the centre focuses on training in the field of nautical repairs and related sectors.

Likewise, the proposed centre will offer training in the repair and maintenance of leisure vessels of all existing professional certificates, courses on training specialties available in the SEPE training file, approved intermediate and higher levels of regulated professional training, as well as basic training and merchant marine qualifications in coordination with the Vocational Training Centre of Nautical Fishing (CIFP Náuticopesquera). Furthermore, it will be the reference centre for developing continuous training for workers employed in the sector in the north of Mallorca.
