Landscape integration of heritage elements on the non-motorised highway network and the Torrent Gros wadi in Molinar district

This aim is to restore a degraded space so it can be enjoyed by the resident population and tourists

What does it consist of?

The purpose of the project is landscape integration actions in Molinar district (Palma) such as continuing the green wedge that Son Panera Park provides, delimited by Torrent Gros as it passes the Ma-19 motorway, in a space between Palma and Marratxí, and to recover and enhance a series of ethnological and heritage elements that are part of the features of this urban environment.

The project

The Island Council of Mallorca is responsible for promoting a series of measures to foster and implement an integrating and coordinated landscape strategy based on the concept, approach and objectives of the European Landscape Convention of the Council of Europe.

This is the context for the “Landscape integration of heritage elements on the non-motorised highway network and the Torrent Gros wadi in Molinar district” project, whose main actions are as follows:

  • Landscape improvement and integration of the expansion of Torrent Gros where it passes the Ma-19 motorway up to a width of 35 m, implemented with the Molinar junction works.
  • Complete restoration of the old railway bridge over the wadi, including integrating the itinerary created and ensuring it is fully functional.
  • Linking the itinerary with the cycle lane between the Molinar and Polígon de Llevant districts. This includes the integration of existing cycle lanes, especially along the coast linking Can Pastilla and Palma-s’Arenal Beach.
  • Plant restoration of the mounds created as a noise barrier.
  • Planting for the landscape restoration of the sector.
  • Integrating existing pathways.

These actions will restore a series of degraded and highly visible spaces that need to be revamped to reverse their negative impact on tourism, although primarily so that the resident population can use them, since the landscape is an integral part of the culture and idiosyncrasy of the Island of Mallorca.
