The project aims to expand the existing infrastructure that distributes regenerated water for different public and private uses. Thus, this resource will reach priority areas of high demand, such as Santa Ponça, Peguera or Cala Vinyes.

In the municipality of Calvià there is significant reuse of regenerated water for various purposes, and a short- and medium-term action plan is being developed to increase currently available water resources. Within this area, the extension and improvement of the regenerated water distribution networks is included as a strategic objective, with the aim of increasing availability in the areas of greatest demand, and encouraging the incorporation of new users of the service.
In fact, the municipality already has an extensive regenerated water distribution network and a range of regeneration infrastructure, such as the Santa Ponça and Bendinat treatment plants. This has provided a significant flow of water for irrigating both public and private green areas, for urban and agricultural use and for leisure activities, etc.
At present, the regenerated water networks run mainly along the Calvià promenade, but are out of reach for other priority areas. Through this project, actions will be carried out in the Santa Ponça Ring, the Santa Ponça Golf urbanisation, Portals Nous, Cala Vinyes, Sol de Mallorca, Magaluf and Peguera so that regenerated water reaches these areas of high consumption potential and can be used for irrigation, although the project also seeks to detect potential new uses and users.
The use of regenerated water is one of the main strategic priorities of sustainable water management policy on the island of Mallorca, which includes the provision of systems for the treatment and regeneration of treated water, the extension of distribution and irrigation networks and the development of communication and public awareness campaigns aimed at saving water.
