The project

On the outskirts of Ferreries, a town in Menorca, is Sa Marina de s'Ermita, a rustic estate with strong social roots and environmental importance. For years it has been an important site for both the educational community and local authorities, due to its biodiversity, landscape and proximity to the municipality. Now, through this plan, the City Council has made it public property.

The main focus of the plan has been the purchase of the estate, which includes an oak tree under protection due to its ecological value and several old buildings that are historically important to the parish of Ferreries and the Diocese of Menorca. The high standard of environmental conservation and social interest in the area has motivated action from the Balearic Environmental Council.

The Council’s aim is to restore and promote the estate not only as a protected natural area, but also as a resource for education, heritage and culture. This purchase opens up new possibilities for community use and for enhancing the immediate surroundings of Ferreries, in line with other actions for sustainable management in the area.

The plan was carried out between 2018 and 2019, with a total investment of €298,094 funded through sustainable tourism tax. The property is now under the ownership of the local council, with sights set on future improvements and protection measures.
