Offshore pipelines connect the sewage treatment plant’s outflow, following initial treatment, with the sea. These pipelines are partly on land and partly in the sea, until they reach the discharge point, which is located at a sufficient distance from the coast, according to studies of sea currents conducted for each case, so as not to affect bathing areas.
In 2011, the Balearic Islands Agency for Water and Environmental Quality (ABAQUA) wrote a negative handover certificate of the works on the offshore pipeline from the wastewater treatment plant in Ciutadella, as it was not in a condition to be given positive certification.
The aim of this project is to resolve this deficiencies and the shortcomings of said works. The steps to be taken have been incorporated into improvements in the underwater section that runs along the sea bed, in the diffusion section, in the removal of the remains from the original pipeline. With this project and the works on the partial replacement of the wastewater treatment network in Ciutadella Sur, the town of Ciutadella will have modernised its infrastructures.
