With the support of the ITS fund, Palma City Council is launching the second phase of redevelopment work at Parc de la Mar. The work is part of the 2024–2025 plan and focuses on renovating an area that receives a high influx of both locals and visitors arriving in the city by sea. The previous phase, which focused on a smaller area, has already been completed with another source of funding after initially being put on hold.
This new phase will cover over 23,000 m², with improvements including new pavement, structural repairs to the underground car park, a new lighting system with efficient technology and the renovation of the irrigation network. In addition, more plants will be added to provide more shade and reduce the impact of city heat, using more resistant species with low water consumption.
The project also includes solutions designed to ensure universal accessibility and environmental adaptation to climate change. The area will be fitted with accessible furniture, new benches, lighting compatible with the surrounding heritage and landscape features that revive the park’s original design.
Although no final date has been set, it is estimated that work will begin in early 2026, once the administrative and tendering procedures have been completed. This work continues a process already underway, seeking not only to preserve the valuable heritage of Parc de la Mar, but also to prepare it to respond to the environmental and social challenges in the city today.
