The project

Events and conference tourism has gained influence in Ibiza's tourism diversification strategy. In contrast to traditional dependence on the sun and beach, the Island Council is committed to strengthening its infrastructure in order to attract visitors outside the high season. This has led to the modernisation of the Ibiza Exhibition Centre, a facility that opened in 1997 to serve as a venue for cultural events, fairs, shows and corporate events.

The project includes a range of procedures to update and improve the site’s operation. These include the construction of a new 1,750 m² detachable and air-conditioned marquee, designed to accommodate a wider variety of events at any time of year. In addition, the bathrooms have been refurbished, the air-conditioning system has been partially renewed, lighting has been upgraded with LED technology and electrical capacity has been increased by means of a new transformer.

Beyond the functional component, the work seeks to reduce the building’s environmental impact. A significant decrease in energy consumption is expected thanks to more efficient equipment and fittings. The lighting and air conditioning have also been designed to ensure greater comfort without compromising on the sustainability of the space.

Through these improvements, the Council seeks to position the Exhibition Centre as an attractive space for MICE tourism, boosting possibilities for the local economic landscape beyond the summer. Events such as the CAN Art Fair and stage shows will thus have better conditions to take place in Ibiza during the months when there are fewer tourists.
