The project

The cultural heritage of the Balearic Islands is not only a testimony to the past, but also an opportunity to build a more diverse and respectful tourism model. With this premise, an ambitious project was created with two areas of focus: a trans-island archaeological route and an international congress on Ramon Llull. Both are designed to bring the historical legacy closer to citizens and cultural visitors, and to make it accessible through digital resources and new interpretation formats.

The cultural route "The Balearic Islands: Phoenicians, Punics and Talayotics" is part of the European Cultural Route "Route of the Phoenicians". It will be rolled out between 2024 and 2027 at points of archaeological interest on the islands, along with signage, interpretative content, digital reconstructions and guided tours of excavations, such as that planned at Puig dels Molins. Noteworthy items from island museums will also be digitised and immersive virtual reality materials will be developed.

The second component is the Ramon Llull International Congress, which will be held in Palma and will feature talks by internationally renowned researchers. The figure of the Mallorcan thinker will be the focus for connecting history, knowledge and cultural projection. It will be organised by the University of the Balearic Islands, with support from public institutions, and will be complemented by activities open to the public and academic conferences on other islands.

Both initiatives are designed to help reduce seasonality, strengthen the cultural dimension of tourism and promote active conservation of heritage.
