What does it consist of?

The aim of the project is to define the installations necessary for temporary occupation in a maritime-terrestrial public place so as to organize the uncontrolled anchoring of boats in s'Estany des Peix throughout the year, which increases significantly during the summer season.

The project

S'Estany des Peix on the island of Formentera is a unique location and is a place where locals have traditionally anchored their boats. In this sense, it is considered convenient to reduce the number of boats being allowed to drop anchor and to regulate moorings and other permitted uses so as to find a balance between authorized anchorings and the preservation of the environment.

As it is a protected space, the objective is to prohibit nautical companies that operate in s'Estany des Peix since their activities, especially boat rental and mechanical work, lead to the contamination of the place due to mainteance tasks, cleaning and fuel supply among others.

With the intention to progressively reduce and fully eliminate the effect of the problems derived from indiscriminate anchoring on the island of Formentera, as well as to improve the quality of the environment, the project proposes a series of activities to organise, regulate and manage anchoring on the island, which are part of a comprehensive plan to conserve the ecosystems of coastal areas.

The activities in this project will ensure the regulation of small boats dropping their anchors, reduce the number of concrete anchors which increase year after year, and eliminate irregular commercial activities which cause environmental damage and social conflict. Only by doing this will the environmental quality of s'Estany des Peix be recovered, which will also ensure the welfare of the users.

The proposed solution consists of installing floating piers to moor boats and low impact anchoring points all around s'Estany des Peix.
