Eivissa has been developing an important educational and training offer in recent decades. The Sa Coma Island Services Park, located between Sant Antoni de Portmany and Santa Eulària des Riu, has become a space that houses educational centres such as the School of Hotel Management, the Official Language School and the future Eivissa Island Council University School of Tourism.
In order to attract students from other parts of Spain and from all over the world, accommodation must be provided for students who make use of these facilities. The growing demand for educational infrastructures makes it essential to build a student residence that will also contribute to the development of educational tourism on the island.
The project therefore contemplates the refurbishment of wing 203, a 1,300 square metre building that was part of the old Sa Coma military barracks. The new residence will have a minimum of 50 beds in 36 single and 14 double rooms. It will also have a kitchen-dining room, administrative spaces, general services, laundry and outdoor recreational areas and gardens.
The building will be equipped with the necessary technical infrastructure to ensure the safety and functionality of the centre, such as technical control and maintenance systems.
This project aims to achieve a functional and comfortable space, adapted to current demands in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency.
This student residence will not only provide quality accommodation for students travelling to Ibiza for training activities, but will also be of great importance for the promotion of educational tourism. Focused until now on holiday tourism, Ibiza will be able to diversify and open up to a more sustainable and potential year-round tourism segment.
Additionally, this initiative will help to reinforce the image of Eivissa as an attraction for international students, which will allow the island to compete with other national and international educational destinations. In the long term, this could have a positive impact on the local economy, offer new business opportunities that help to deseasonalise productive sectors and favour the training of qualified professionals.
