The project

The new headquarters of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra will be built at the Levante industrial estate, on a site donated by Palma City Council. The project seeks to honour the work of one of the most important cultural institutions of the archipelago, which until now did not have its own space suitable for carrying out its activities.

The architectural complex will have three different sections. One main hall will be dedicated to stage activity; another will house rehearsal rooms, individual studios and dressing rooms; and a third will be used for administrative activities and archive space. The whole ensemble is designed to meet the real training needs of musicians and the organisation as whole.

The construction project has been entrusted to the state-owned public company Tragsatec, which is working on the technical specifications established by the Orchestra’s Foundation (FOSIB). Funding is expected to include contributions from the private foundation FUNDATUR and European ERDF funds.

The Caja de Música also represents a commitment to revamping the urban setting. Located in a changing environment, it aims to become a cultural and social driving force for Palma and to reinforce the city's reputation. With a planned investment of more than €7 million, the project is part of the public strategy to reduce seasonality in cultural events on the islands.
