Abandoning activities such as agriculture and cattle breeding, especially on extensive farms, is still a problem that leads us inexorably to a loss of the functionality of the rural space as has been understood up to now. Therefore, a new drive in the agricultural sector is necessary to highlight the benefits to society, beyond food production. These benefits are the positive side effects that are generated by certain agricultural models and systems, where the value is not reflected in the price of the products that are sold on the market.
This project proposes the possibility of approving a call for applications for minor grants to give recognition to the agroecosystem work carried out by small and medium-sized farms on the four islands. Therefore, the aim is to promote those environmental services that are given free of charge, thus dignifying rural life and helping maintain a sustainable farming model.
Grants will differ depending on the surface area being farmed and the degree of diversification. Grant amounts will be linked to how farms carry out actions that generate positive side effects on the environment, and different levels of grants will be given depending on compliance.
