The aim of this project is to sponsor events that increase the visibility and positioning of the Balearic Islands as a sustainable tourist destination. The goal is to diversify the tourist offer, make the off-season agenda of activities more dynamic and promote sustainable practices. The project has a duration of three years and includes the publication of public calls to select events that favour the deseasonalisation of tourism and bring economic, social and environmental benefits to the territory.

The Balearic Islands enjoy a good position in international tourism markets but it is necessary to continue to reinforce the image of the destination as a benchmark in sustainability. Deseasonalisation of tourism is a key objective to avoid the concentration of visitors during the high season, which puts pressure on natural resources and infrastructure.
It is therefore necessary to promote events that not only attract visitors, but also encourage environmentally friendly practices and contribute to social and territorial cohesion. The aim is to diversify the tourist offer by promoting activities that are interesting for new issuing markets and add value to the destination.
This project therefore proposes the publication of several public calls for proposals to select cultural and sporting events that will help to position the Balearic Islands as a leading destination in sustainable tourism. These calls will take place between 2024 and 2026 and key criteria will include media impact, generation of value for the destination and implementation of sustainable measures.
Selected events will take place outside the high season in order to prolong tourist activity throughout the year and to deseasonalise the tourist offer. Another goal is to encourage events that incorporate sustainable strategies in their organisation, such as the reduction of environmental impact and the promotion of sustainable values among participants and visitors.
Also to diversify the tourism offer with innovative products that attract new issuing markets and broaden the offer beyond sun and beach tourism. Finally, the aim is to support events with a high media impact in order to contribute to the international recognition of the Balearic Islands as a cultural, sporting and sustainable destination.
The project will not only help to improve the competitiveness of the Balearic Islands as a tourist destination, but will also have a dynamic effect on the local economy. Sponsored events will attract visitors from international markets, extend the tourist season and boost revenue generation for local businesses. Likewise, sustainable practices applied at the events will reinforce the positioning of the destination as a benchmark in sustainable tourism.
In short, the sponsorship project will be a key tool for the future of tourism in the Balearic Islands as a sustainable destination as it contributes to consolidating a tourism model based on respect for the environment, quality and diversification, fundamental elements for guaranteeing sustainable and balanced economic growth.
