The project

The area of Cala d'en Serra, to the north of the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, has been marked for years by an unfinished structure, designed as a hotel complex in 1975 by architect Josep Lluís Sert. The work was never completed and the complex was abandoned, becoming a ruin that can be seen from the coast.

The current project includes planning and construction management for the complete demolition of the building, as well as the acquisition of the land on which it stands. This work is considered to be of public utility pursuant to Decree Law 3/2024, due to the environmental and landscape value of the area, close to protected areas such as Xarxa Natura 2000.

The tasks planned not only include tearing down the buildings, but also drafting waste management studies, environmental protection measures and work to restore the surroundings. The work will focus on renaturing the area and removing any artificial structures that disrupt the landscape.

With an estimated budget of €462,790 for this first phase, the initiative responds to a long-standing social and political demand. This damaged coastal area, nestled among woodland, cliffs and the sea, can thus give way to a space reclaimed for public use and ecological conservation.
