The project

Located on Calle Brotad in Palma, the building that will house the future headquarters of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra Foundation is starting to see progress after the project came to a halt to undergo changes. The building, which will be used for cultural and administrative purposes, aims to be a versatile space for rehearsals, concerts and stage performances, with ties to the local area and the future ‘Parque de la Música’.

The revised project includes measures to improve the original features: from trapping solar energy to recycling rainwater for irrigation, parking with electric charging points and universal accessibility. High-tech facilities for recording, video projection and broadcasting of events are also foreseen.

The work includes the reorganisation of spaces such as the main rehearsal room, the creation of a physiotherapy room for musicians and specific areas for audio editing. Outside, the building will blend with the urban environment and outdoor concerts may be a possibility in the future.

With an execution budget of €7.6 million, the project has an estimated completion time of 14 months. The initiative is promoted by the foundation itself, and the public engineering company TRAGSATEC is also providing technical assistance. The relaunching of the project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the role of culture as a driver of social cohesion and sustainability in the area.
