The project

Andratx Town Council has begun preparations to restore the Can Fasser estate, located in the Prat del Port wetlands, with the aim of transforming it into a space for educational, cultural and environmental use. The project is funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) and will run over the next few years, with a planned start date in 2025.

The intervention includes the recovery of the hydraulic system—with a noria (hydro-powered scoop wheel), irrigation ditches and cisterns—, the structural consolidation of the existing buildings and the adaptation of the spaces for use as exhibition halls, classrooms and laboratories linked to the natural environment. Plans also include the creation of an open-sided agricultural shelter and a system of access routes adapted to the site’s flood-prone topography.

The new centre will be integrated into the network of facilities of Sa Dragonera Nature Park, acting as an educational entry point and a link between the cultural landscape of the Tramuntana Mountains and the agricultural heritage of the municipality. The estate retains traces of its livestock-farming past and preserves a traditional structure with marés-stone walls, an Arabic-tile roof and historic water channels.

In addition to the environmental and heritage value, the project seeks to generate social and urban benefits by revitalising a peripheral area, integrating it with the town centre and encouraging neighbourhood participation in educational and awareness-raising activities. The planned investment exceeds two million euros and the schedule is due to be completed in phases, with completion estimated in 2026.
