The project involves the environmental improvement of the affected stretch of bed, eliminating stagnant areas, blockages and obstacles, improving accesses and passages, protecting the side of the bed by building and repairing the side defences. Further activities will be carried out to improve the environment in the area.

Measures to preserve and maintain the Hydrographic Network improve the natural functioning of the bed as part of the redevelopment of the hydraulic section at sensitive points, recovering both the system of currents and the hydrological processes, and increasing diversity and its degree of naturalness. Accordingly, reconditioning the bed and containing the bank in question helps the bed to stabilise.
The reconstruction techniques used will be the most environmentally respectful and will as far as possible integrate in to the ecological functioning of the river and the landscape. As with other measures, the riverbank protection will be carried out in the same way as the others in the area, and using natural elements to level and stabilise the bed. The work will be carried out by external teams with plenty of experience in this kind of work.
It can therefore be concluded that the current situation of the Sant Miquel riverbed in the section next to where it crosses the DT-3420, close to s’Albufera de Mallorca, is unsuitable for it to function as it should in hydraulic terms, as the retaining walls could collapse, which would lead to significant obstructions and damage in the areas close to the river and its mouth in s’Albufera.
It is therefore appropriate to highlight the need to recondition the bed and rebuild the walls on the left bank upstream from the section that crosses the DT-4320 road, to ensure that the bodies of water are controlled as they should be and to protect the public hydraulic domain, and in so doing help improve the flow of water toward s’Albufera.
