What does it consist of?

Thirty years after its creation, the Balearic Symphony Orchestra will finally have a stable base from which to operate, one that meets its artistic, administrative and staging needs. This is an opportunity to strengthen the position of the islands’ most important cultural entity.

The project

The main aim of the “Caja de Música” (Music Box) will be to accommodate the daily running of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra. The building will be divided into three blocks: a central section as a main performance room for the orchestra, a side section for rehearsals, the musicians’ personal study and dressing rooms, and a third section, which will house the administration and archive area.

The building will located in the Polígono de Levante, on an area of land granted by the city council, with the aim of it acting as a catalyst for this area of Palma, turning it into a musical landmark for the city in its internal life and as part of its exterior image.

The executive project is being carried out by the state public company Tragsatec, meeting all the architectural requirements with regards to space and acoustics as required by the Foundation, and financing will be completed with funds from the FUNDATUR foundation and with FEDER funds from the European Community.
